2018-12 December

Findon Gentlemen’s Cycling club rides in December 2018

Saturday 1st December 08.00am ride
Heavy rain and strong winds so no one out.

Saturday 8th December 08.00am ride
ZA, JR, RT
ZA under time pressure so a short ride proposed.
Church Hill, Clapham Woods, A27 (yuck!), Cote Street and a pause at the top to put the world (or more specifically politicians and their mess up of Brexit – all politicians of all parties) to rights and back down Church Hill for a brek at Julia’s.
Only 6.6 miles and 661 ft.

Saturday 15th December 08.00am ride
A morning after an EPM and only the old guard were out (well only three of them to be precise) – JR, RT, ZA.
Cold sleety weather and JR, well stocked up with his Gurhka and Sussex bitter antifreeze, decided to turn out in shorts. Strong easterly winds so a route was selected to get the into wind part over first. Up to Cissbury car park and straight on turning right at the top of the second summit and down to Lytchpole Farm. Then doubling back along the track to the east side of Cissbury and back up to Cissbury car park. The intention was to drop down to the village and then go up Church Hill and down Cote Street for a brek at a new establishment, Bex. However, ZA and RT were both under a bit of time pressure and this, combined with a timely sleet/hail shower, resulted in a decision not to proceed with the rest of the planned route. JA, legs turning a tinge of purple by this time, decided to press on and has not been seen since.
Total 6.4 miles and 608ft.

Saturday 22nd December 08.00am ride
CB, RT, JR
A fine day for a ride and route decided was Shoreham so that we could have a brek and check on standards at the Pure Chocolate Truffles stall at the market there. Cissbury, Lancing clump and over the footbridge to Truffles. CB then parted company for a straight ride back due to time pressure. Regrettably standards at Pure Chocolate Truffles still haven’t recovered – no tie!!!. JR and RT continued along the sea front to Worthing against a strong wind and then a zig-zag route through the back streets to the gallops and back to Findon.
Total 18.5 miles and 820 ft.

Saturday 29th December 08.00am ride
JR, PT, RK, ZA, CB, RT
10 minute rule more than a little extended while various routes were debated, an additional complication being the absence of open brek locations. Three and a half peaks with drop down to Bex restaurant on the A27 via Cote Street became the final choice, the venue having been checked for standards by JR a couple of weeks ago. A full 5 minutes was allocated to the necessary activity of talking b******s at the seat at the top of Cote Street. Route after the brek was via Salvington Hill and Church Hill. No incidents to report.
Total 13.4 miles and 1,121 ft (Strava).
