FGCC rides in August

Saturday 1st August 08.00 am ride
MA, JR, RK, RT.
A short ride intended, but Julia’s closed so decided to do a loop round Steyning with a brek there before returning to Findon.
Up Stable Lane, to Langmead down the concrete road, to Bramber roundabout, Roman Road and right into Kings Barn Lane. Past the sewage works and left just at the end of the bridge onto the bridle path, following this path until we came to the A281. Across and alongside the school playing fields and into Steyning. However we found Truffles boarded up for refurbishment, so decided to go to the Castle Inn in Bramber for brek. Return to Findon via Downslink, SDW and Langmead.
Total 18 miles.

Saturday 8th August 08.00am ride
ZA, PT, RT, PT (Philip),RK, MA.
A very pleasant summer day at last with almost no wind so a coastal route selected. Up to Cissbury and straight over the Steyning road to Lancing Hill and down past the college, across the toll bridge and to Truffles for a birthday brek for RT and PT (thank you gentlemen).
Return along the sea front, west Worthing station, TAB lights, Salvington and the gallops.
Total 20 miles?

Saturday 15th August 08.00 am ride

the Oxford wing of the FGCC expressed an interest in a route to Arundel. Up to Muntham, SDW, Kithurst Hill, Burpham and to try a new brek location in Arundel. Return to Findon via the Poling route to Angmering village, Highdown, Durrington, Salvington and the Findon Gallops.
Total 23 miles?

Saturday 22nd August 08.00am ride
RK, MA.
RK writes “I would like to thank Mark A for a very pleasant ride to Henfield on Saturday. The weather was brilliant and visibility uninterrupted for many miles. On the way back stopping for a short rest, to enjoy the acrobatic display at the airshow only to find out an hour later of the tragedy which occurred.”
Route was up to Cissbury car park, towards Llama lane and on to the SDW. Left and round towards Bloody Norse Corner but down past the jumps and to Mouse Lane. Into Steyning round to Kings Barn Lane and Downslink to Truffles at Henfield. Return leg via Downslink, Bramber, new section of Downslink, back onto the SDW, Langmead and Stable Lane.
25 miles?

Saturday 29th August 08.00am ride
ZA, RK, JR, RT.
Initial discussions over JR’s new steed – well an old one revitalised and of a frame size far too small with self selecting gears!
Route the Amberley loop but with a stop for a fine breakfast at Amberley by the river and in the sunshine, the only downside being the large numbers of wasps.

Amongst the usual excess of b******s were discussions on the setting up of the BDN wing – the Busy Doing Nothing wing which RT was looking forward to starting in October. ZA confirmed he would be an early participant.
The end of the ride was via collarbone alley and Mr Roche reminded us that the original event was 20 years to the day.

An appropriate moment to open a new set of paints for memorial restoration and recite the FGCC ode. We also noted that the memorial post was also the original , a railway sleeper that has lasted 20 years!
