Findon Gentlemen’s Cycling Club rides in June 2026
Saturday 6th June 08.00am ride
ZA, RT
The prospect of very wet weather meant that only two advised that they would be out, giving an opportunity for e-bike free cycling. A ride to the Bluebird Cafe in Ferring was agreed.
After deluges during the night and just before the ride we started off in relatively dry weather though with very strong SSW winds. Up through the Crem and north to Chantry post at which point rain started. Due to the wind we had to pedal going downhill to Leigh Farm and even more so alongside the gallops into heavy rain and getting soaked.
At the end of the gallops we ascended to the west end of APE and east on the tarmac to take some shelter, by which time the rain had stopped. Down Dover Lane and across the A27 to then head to Angmering, by now in sunshine. East towards Highdown then down Hangleton Lane, across the A259 and through Ferring to the Bluebird by which time we had largely dried out.
Return east through the channel-island named streets to Sea Lane, then on Ilex way to Goring north to the industrial estate and through the tunnel under the railway. Continuing generally north-easterly to go up Cotswold road to the A27 and Mill Lane, the Gallops, Bostal and the cycling motorway to Findon.
Both very satisfied with having had a good analogue ride “while we still can”
Total 22 miles and 1,280 ft
Meanwhile in Italy CB achieved double the distance and heights climbed, a great training ride in preparation for the FGCC Shrewsbury long ride later this month.
36miles and 2,870 ft

Mr Thriscutt learning to ride again – just as well he had electric assistance (well most of the time!)
Sunday 21st to Saturday 27th Shrewsbury ride
Day 0.
MA collected the van and then drove to Findon to come across :
Van quickly loaded and luggage and riders got into the two cars and all headed off to cafe at Box Hill, with the van collecting PT from Horsham. Temperature already rising and hot at this stage.
Good progress made round M25 and onto the M40 until near Birmingham where an accident blocked the motorway at the M42, leading the three vehicles to take alternative routes round the problem to get to the (boiling) Lion Hotel Shrewsbury around 4.00pm. Van left loaded ready for the next day’s event.
Pre-prandial drinks and dinner taken in the “speak easy” (JR term) the Royal Oak pub.
Day 1 ride – the Wenlock Edge ride.
Van with driver and 2 passengers and a taxi plus the rest of the peloton drove to the start point at Craven Arms station. Bikes unloaded and off we set with the temperature already rising towards 30C, but thankfully it was not long before we entered woodland with most of the ride along Wenlock Edge.
Start was east over the river Onny and then generally in a north easterly direction on and off road in and out of woodland past Lower Dinchope, Westhope, Middlehope and onto the former Wellington/Craven Arms railway.
AM’s steed had an issue with a wandering brake grip…
An incident when a loose branch inserted itself in Team Chaplain’s front wheel resulting in a whack to the nether regions. Meanwhile
